Welcome to the Talent Programmes

This part of the website is designed to give you an insight into what British Fencing is doing in terms of investing in talented athletes, showing the opportunities athletes can take to become the best they can be.

British Fencing launched their partnership with Sport England with the aim of investing in and creating a Talent Pathway to provide young talented athletes with the opportunity to access World Class provision and move through a logical system to maximise their opportunity to be the best they can be.

Latest Talent information about applying for the Talent Programmes - Updated June 2015

Following on from feedback, we have changed the way in which we select athletes to attend the Talent assessment days.  Instead of invitations being issued by the WCP purely based on cadet and junior ranking lists, we are now asking athletes who wish to be considered to submit an application form for consideration.  On receipt of the applications, the WCP Talent Team will consider each application on their merits and identify those athletes that will  be invited to one of the assessment days.

The criteria that will be used in assessing the applications are as follows:

 -  Any athlete who is under 20 on 1st January 2015 and was born between 1995 and 2003 is able to apply to be part of one of these two programmes

 -  Fencers in the top five of the U17 rankings or top three of the U20 rankings are guaranteed to be invited to one of the assessment days should they make an application and can make the nominated day of assessment for their weapon

-  Fencers wishing to be part of one of these Programmes should already be training several times per week and have the full support of their personal coach in making their application

-  Progression / development as a fencer and athlete

-  Overall ranking

-  Overall results to date

Not all applicants will be invited to attend, assessment will be limited to 24 athletes in each of the three weapons.  Fencers who have already done an assessment and were not invited to join one of the programmes are welcome to reapply.  All personal coaches are welcome and encouraged to attend the assessment days with their fencer(s).

Please do contact myself or Neil Brown, Performance Coordinator for Talent, if you have any queries or need any additional information.

We look forward to receiving your applications.
