The GBR Pathway Development Camps are open to all athletes selected onto the GBR Pathway Programme. These camps form the foundations of athlete learning, and are designed to bring the entire pathway cohort together within a shared development environment.
These camps are designed to provide athletes with a platform to develop their skills, experience high-level training in a supportive and challenging environment, and develop a wider GBR squad culture.
They also provide GBR coaches with additional points of contact with the athlete throughout the season, along with touch points throughout the international calendar.
The GBR Development Camps provide up to 12 contact days per season where education, performance behaviours and physical, technical, and tactical development will form the basis of the curriculum. The camps take place throughout the year, complementing cadet and junior calendars and integrating wheelchair fencing athletes.
The entry age of the athlete will be 14 years of age, but there will be no defined upper age limit, which allows for later maturation athletes to engage in this programme.
Athletes are able to apply to be part of the GBR Pathway Programme and those who are deemed talented based on their athlete profile will be invited to engage with the programme.
To help achieve this, the GBR Development Camps have partnered with the Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE), funded by the Department for Education. This is a BTEC level qualification for development program athletes aged 16-18, not in university, and allows athletes to gain a qualification alongside their training.
Upcoming Camps:
18th-19th July 2026
29th-30th August 2026
Training events will vary in their set-up depending on intended outcomes, some separated by weapon and some by competition level. Further information about the camps can be found below.
