GRUNDY & SALTER SELECTED AS REFEREES FOR PARIS 2024 PARALYMPICS

World Abilitysport has selected Sean Grundy and Mike Salter as referees for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

World Abilitysport is responsible for appointing a number of referees to officiate the Fencing event at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Sean Grundy and Mike Salter, two of our most experienced GBR Wheelchair Fencing referees, have been selected to be referees at the Paralympics in Paris later this year. Sean is mainly a foil specialist, whilst Mike is mainly a sabre specialist, although both can referee other weapons to a high level.

Both have regularly represented both GBR and IWAS on multiple occasions in the past, and both were referees at the delayed games in Tokyo in 2021. Sean was a referee at the world championships in Terni last year, and Mike was a guest referee at the Asian Para Games last year.

Speaking of his selection, Mike said,

“It’s an enormous honour to be selected for Paris 2024, and what will be my third Paralympic games. The games are the greatest sporting spectacle on earth and being entrusted with making the correct calls and the smooth running on bouts at the time when Para-fencing is on the world stage is an incredible feeling.”

On hearing the news, Sean said,

“It’s a huge honour to be selected to referee at my third Paralympic Games in Paris. The pinnacle of our sport is what every referee dreams of, and to be entrusted with refereeing the best fencers in the world, on the biggest stage in the world, along with my brilliant colleagues brings immense pride and thankfulness.”

Chris Farren, head of the Wheelchair Fencing Referee Commission, said,

“I am really pleased to confirm that both Sean and Mike have been selected as referees for the Paris Games. They are both extremely skilled and experienced referees, who bring a high level of professionalism and technical ability to their work, and I am very happy to have them as part of my refereeing team at this event.”
