Report from St Maur, Algiers, Oslo, San Salvador & Sofia

St Maur Senior Women’s Foil World Cup

There were nine British fencers in the field of one hundred and ninety in France at the weekend.  Kate Beardmore, Ayesha Fihosy and Katie Smith achieved the best results by making the first preliminary qualifier.

Chiara McDermott lined up with Beardmore, Fihosy and Smith to fence for Great Britain in the twenty-strong field in the team event.  They lost 45-36 to Hungary in the round of 32 to finish eighteenth.

Algiers Senior Men’s Sabre World Cup

Nine British fencers lined up in the field of one hundred and twenty-nine in Algeria.  Will Deary, James Honeybone and Jonathan Webb achieved the best results by making the round of 64.

Deary, Honeybone and Webb were joined by Curtis Miller in the Great Britain team in a field of eighteen on Sunday.  A bye through the round of 32 was followed by a 45-30 defeat to Hungary.  Victory over Japan 45-40 and defeats by Georgia, 45-39 and Ukraine, 45-41, meant that they were placed twelfth.

Oslo Men’s Epee Satellite

Five British fencers lined up in a field of fifty-four in the Norwegian capital at the weekend.  Daniel McGlade made the top eight, placing fifth for Britain’s best result.

San Salvador Junior Men’s Epee World Cup

Two British fencers were part of the field of twenty-four in San Salvador at the weekend and Owen Jordan claimed the best result by winning the silver medal.  Full report here.

Sofia Cadet Women’s Sabre EFC Circuit

Ellen Robbins Wilkinson was Great Britain’s sole representative in Bulgaria at the weekend.  She made the round of 64.
