2025 BRITISH SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS ENTRY PROCESS

Entry process and initial details for the 2025 British Senior Championships (‘The Nationals’) on the 26-27th April 2025. 

The 2025 British Senior and Team Championships (‘The Nationals’) take place at the EIS Sheffield on the 26-27th April 2025. The Championships weekend also includes the following events:

  •  British Para Fencing Championships
  • GB Cup (DEU Championships)

Saturday 26th April 2025

 British Senior Championships (Individual Events)

Eligibility and Membership Level: The British Senior Championships will be open only to those holding British nationality, including those holding multiple nationalities, provided that the fencer does not hold an FIE licence issued for a country other than Great Britain.

Ranking Information: The British Senior Championships is a Senior and Junior Ranking Event.

Multipliers: 600 Senior, 300 Junior

Entry Process

As with the 2023 and 2024 event, entry limits will be in place for the British Senior Championships. These entry limits have been calculated based on previous years’ entry figures, and demand based on Senior Ranking Lists. A wildcard application process will also be in place as in previous years.

75% of places of the total entry limit will be reserved for the top eligible fencers based on the British Fencing Senior Rankings, as taken on 3rd March 2025.

After the entry period for the top eligible fencers to take their place, the remaining places will open for open entry until the entry closing date, or the event reaching its entry limit.

Entry Timeline (Individual Events)

  • 3rd March 2025 – Senior ranking lists to be used to invite top eligible fencers.
  • 5th March – 21st March 2025 – Entry window for top eligible fencers to enter.
  • 25th March – 4th April  2025 – Entry window for open entry (all eligible British fencers are able to enter).

 

Wildcards 

As with previous British Senior Championships, following the invitation of automatic qualifiers, those fencers outside of the automatic qualification places who believe they are eligible for a wildcard place can apply.

 

Criteria for Wildcards

  • Senior or U23 athletes returning from a significant period of absence, a major injury, pregnancy, change of nationality or other significant life events have made them unable to compete and fallen out of the automatic qualification spaces; who were previously ranked in the top 25 of the BF Senior Rankings within the last three years – or top 100 of the FIE Rankings.
  • Athletes displaced from the automatic qualification spaces (set tab.1) due to international fencers (ineligible to compete for GBR) being placed within the reserved spaces.
  • Junior athletes that have met selection standards for respective major championships (European and World) as a Junior, in order of the BF Junior Rankings on the 3rd March 2025.
  • Junior athletes are currently ranked in the top 8 of the Junior Rankings as ordered on the 3rd March 2025.
  • Last year’s Cadets met selection standards for respective major championships as Cadets in order of the BF Cadet Rankings on the 1st March 2025.
  • An ADP athlete (of any age) in the top 100 on the 3rd March 2025 of the BF Senior ranking whose attendance would support their development with a documented IADP shared with the ADP.

 

Timeline for Wildcard Process 

  • Wildcard applications open on 5th March 2025
  • Wildcard applications close on 12th March 2025
  • Wildcard invitations sent on 14th March 2025
  • Acceptance of invitation by 21st March 2025

British Team Championships

Eligibility and Membership Criteria

  • Restricted to teams from BF Affiliated clubs, with strict criteria for representing the club (no ‘scratch’ teams).
  • Limited to one team per club in each weapon (additional spaces may be available if entry limits are not reached).
  • Teams are limited to one club member per team who is not eligible to compete for GBR. All must hold a BF Compete membership.

Qualification for European Club Championships

  • The top two teams in each weapon qualify for the European Cup – the EFC European Club Championships (in previous years this has taken place in early October).
  • Should the top two qualifying clubs not confirm participation, places will be offered to the next team in result order.

Entry Timeline (Team Events)

  • 5th March – Entries open for clubs to enter one team per weapon.
  • 25th March – 5th April – Clubs able to put in second team if spaces are not filled.
