Uzbekistan is welcoming the Fencing Youth

The Cadet and Junior Fencing World Championships are among the most important events in the FIE calendar as they provide young fencers with the opportunity to demonstrate their skills at an international level. The FIE Cadet and Junior World Championships will be held in Tashkent from the 1-9 April, 2015. The competition is the focal point of the season for young fencers from around the world. Athletes will compete in two age categories – Cadets up to 17 years old, and juniors up to 20 years old.

It is the first time that the capital of Uzbekistan has hosted these championships which feature athletes from countries from all over the world. In all more than 1,000 athletes from over 100 countries will take part in the individual and team competitions in foil, epee and sabre. This year’s participants are tomorrow’s Olympians, possibly even at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Fencing is one of the oldest, most beautiful and noble sports and the Cadet and Junior World Championships occupy an important place in the international competitive calendar and in the career of any athlete.

Each year, the Cadet and Junior World Championships provide the perfect platform for young and aspiring athletes from all over the world.  Since several years, champions and finalists are emerging from all zonal regions and countries and this fact is especially obvious on the cadet and junior level.

Youth fencing is growing worldwide at a remarkable rate, and an increasing number of countries are not only producing new world-level fencers, but also winning international medals.

The young fencers will celebrate with the FIE the second International Day of Sport for Development and Peace on April6 by sending a massive message through FIE and Peace and Sport social media platforms, sharing pictures and actions dedicated to the special day.

The Championships events will be held in the “GSC” complex as considered one of the biggest gymnastics halls in the world. Even though the complex is quite new several prestigious tournaments such as World cup series in Rhythmic Gymnastics 2011, 2012, Asian Championships for Artistic Gymnastics 2014, World Cup FIG Rhythmic Gymnastics 2014 and Wrestling World Championships have been holding in it.

Under the auspices of the FIE the competition organisers are the Uzbekistan Olympic Committee, the Ministry of Culture and Sports affairs, the Uzbekistan Fencing Federation and the relevant ministries and departments of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Fans and media can follow the live stream of the event on the FIE YouTube Channel and receive the latest information on the FIE twitter as well as on www.fie.org and the FIE Facebook page.
