Two Cadet Foil Events Held in Germany

Cadet Men’s Foil – Halle

Matthew Abrahams was Great Britain’s sole representative in Halle, Germany at the weekend.  He had a cracking start to the day beating all of his six first round opponents.  That earned him a bye through the incomplete round of 256.  In the 128 he beat Schaetzke (GER) 15-6 but then lost 15-11 to Klein (GER) to finish 37th

Michael Li (USA) beat his compatriot Shane Iverson 15-12 to take the title as Mohamed Hamza (EGY) and Silvio Rosu (ROU) picked up the bronze medals.

GB individual placing:  Abrahams 37th.

Cadet Women’s Foil – Tauberbischofsheim

A field of two hundred and thirteen fencers at this event included four from Great Britain.  Only Madeleine Brown (V3D3) made the first round cut as Tegan McCallum (V1D5), Sophie Peake (V1D5) and Charity Weeks (V0D6) missed the cut.  A second round of poules followed and Brown won two of her five fights to make the direct elimination stages.  She fell 15-6 to Devore (USA)) in the round of 128. 

Sylvie Binder (USA) won the title beating Stefani Deschner (USA) 15-10 in the final.  Leonie Ebert (GER) and Natalie Minarik (USA) completed the podium in the bronze medal positions.

GB placings:  Brown 108th, McCallum 166th, Peake 188th & Weeks 200th.
