Men’s Foil squad prove to be a huge hit with GB Media
On Tuesday 28th February, with just 150 days to go until the start of the London Olympic Games, the British media were invited to the English Institute of Sport, Lee Valley to observe an elite training session, interview some of the men’s foil squad and try the sport.
The journalists watched the squad during their morning training session where questions were answered by our Media Officer, Karim Bashir and taster session coach, Nick Payne. With 20 journalists and photographers present it was a busy morning!
Having seen the sport up close Jacquelin Magnay (Telegraph), Alex Ralph (Times), Laurie Whitehall (Daily Mail), Dan King (Sun), Mark Blunden (Standard), Danielle Rossingh (Bloomberg) and Sally Williams (ITV London) were treated to a taster session. Nick Payne expertly guided them through the basics of footwork and blade work using GO/FENCE kit. The journalists were then able to challenge Payne to a duel.
Having been put through their paces they were then given an opportunity to interview some of the men’s foil squad and Ian Hoy from Beazley.
The event was a great success and we have already started to see some of the coverage.
