The International Fencing Federation (the FIE)

(Federation Internationale d’Escrime)

The International Fencing Federation (FIE) is recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as the world governing body of fencing.

The Fédération Internationale d’Escrime was founded in 1913 and Great Britain was one of the nine founding nations. There are now over 150 member national federations.

The FIE establishes the rules to which international competitions must be organised and oversees their implementation.

To compete in an FIE event, a fencer must be entered by their National Federation and have an FIE licence. For more information about getting an EFC licence see FIE/EFC LICENCES – BRITISH FENCING.

Structure

FIE structure is composed of the Executive committee, Confederations and National Federations, Commissions and Councils, and the FIE Executive Office
