NATIONAL ACADEMY CAMP ADDS INTERNATIONAL FLAVOUR
European Fencers and Coaches to Join Pre-Season Camp in Nottingham
The National Academy will hold its third pre-season training camp in Nottingham in August. One of the main points raised in the feedback from last year was the desire to train with foreign fencers and the National Academy Managers have listened.
Fencers and coaches from France and Italy will join the British cohort with an invitation to the German federation still being finalised. Whilst the Italians will be bringing some talented club fencers British Fencing have partnered with the French Fencing Federation who will be bringing their national cadet squad including a European finalists. Recently FIE diploma qualified coach, Glen Golding will be joined by Steven Davey, Paul Sibert, Sam Stockley, Ian Williams, Dan Redshaw, and Philip Shepherd-Foster. The French and Italian coaches will also take a full part in the training activities.
All athletes involved will be put through their paces on the week long course which will include new strength and conditioning testing and monitoring.
The camp is now fully subscribed but for information regarding future National Academy training camps please contact [email protected].
Some of our National Academy fencers will be travelling to Germany for a camp in Tauberbischofsheim and will be accompanied by Sue Benney, Jamie Miller and Pavel Rynes.
British Fencing National Academy Manager, Alan Rapley, said: “We’re very pleased to be able to announce these developments of the National Academy programme. This summer over 170 fencers will benefit from the input of our experts and from this international experience.”
