USA based Brit, Molly Hudson, finishes fifth at Cadet Epee Circuit event 

Molly Hudson, 15, made the top eight at the Grenoble Cadet International epee event in France on 24^th November 2012.  She came through a field of 170 fencers in this European Cadet Circuit competition.

Hudson came through two rounds of poules with a ranking of seventeen.  She stormed through her first two knock out fight 15-2 and 15-4 against Picard (FRA) and Tisch (GER) respectively.  In the round of 32 she had a tougher time falling two hits behind against Tredici (ITA) but pulled ahead in the second period and came through 15-13.  In the round of 16 she lost 15-6 to top American, Sirico, which put her into the repercharge. 

She won her first two fights convincingly 15-5 and 15-8 against two Russians, Overchenko and Blinnikova.  Then, to make the quarterfinal on her first outing for Great Britain she faced the American number two, Kehl.  After a close fight Hudson overcame Kehl (for the first time) 15-11.  In the quarterfinal she was knocked out 15-6 by Clerici (ITA) who went on to take the silver medal.  The event was won by Sirico (USA) with bronze medals going to De Marchi (ITA) and Nixon (USA).

Hudson commented after the event: “I was excited to attend my first International event and in the beginning of poules felt a little intimidated by all the foreign teams.  Once I settled into the event I realized that my hard work and consistent training  at my fencing club would help me through the long day.  I would also like to thank the other British team girls and Mrs. Rose for their great support and also to Jamie Miller for his support and help throughout the day.”

Hudson is coached by Andrev Geva and Sergev Danilov who said: “Molly has been training hard and alongside her fitness training this is now beginning to pay off.  As Molly gains more experience and confidence in  her fencing I predict that she will continue to  grow and improve  and I look forward to seeing  Molly  with more successes in the future.”
