BRITISH FENCING RECEIVES BOOST TO WORLD CLASS PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME
British Fencing today welcomed the increased funding provision from UK Sport for the four years to the Rio Olympic Games.
For the years 2013-2017, UK Sport has increased the overall funding support available by 22%, to just over £3m. The support is dedicated to podium potential athletes and reflects the recent progress made by British Fencing in its support for and development of world class athletes. The funding support is to be reviewed after the first year.
Speaking today, Peter King interim CEO, said; “We appreciate this continued and strong support from UK Sport, for our preparation for the next two Olympic Games. We believe we have coming through a core of winning fencers and this funding will be crucial in getting us to world class standards”.
Julia Bracewell, former GB fencer and British Fencing Board Director, said; “Winning gold medals is the dream of all of us involved in fencing in these islands. This UK Sport funding is the crucial support we need to develop the world class fencing programme we all seek”.
