Senior Women’s Sabre returns to the UK in conjunction with the FIE Centenary Celebrations
British Fencing will host the senior women’s World Cup 25-27 January 2013 at Surrey Sports Park, Guildford. This event represents the first major senior world ranking event held in Great Britain since the 2012 Olympic Games. The FIE (International Fencing Federation) will also hold the inaugural celebrations of its Centenary year alongside the event – a great honour for British Fencing, one of the founding members of the FIE in 1913.
For the first time the event will be named the Beazley Trophy in recognition of Beazley Group’s sponsorship of British Fencing. The individual event will start on 25 January 2013 and conclude with a gala final the following day, with the team event taking place on 27 January. Entries are flying in for what promises to be a spectacular competition featuring the world’s top fencers.
It will also be the first time that a major international fencing event is hosted at the fantastic Surrey Sports Park. For those wishing to attend tickets will be available every day at the venue at a competitive price. (Friday £2, Saturday (preliminaries) £2, Saturday (Gala final) £5, Sunday £3.) For those unable to attend, the entire event will be broadcast live on the FIE’s Livestream YouTube channel – FIE Videos (also available at http://www.fie.org) with live commentary provided by British Fencing’s Karim Bashir and David King. Access to the FIE100 Hall of Fame and Centenary Exhibition will be available throughout the event.
The Hall of Fame will include images of some of the most influential people involved in fencing in the last 100 years, including British Olympic medallists Bill Hoskyns and Allan Jay. The exhibition will include items dating back several hundred years.
