Impressive entry for Beazley Trophy as Press Conference confirmed

Entries for the Beazley Trophy closed on Sunday.  Typically in a post-Olympic year entries for World Cup and Grand Prix events go down.  This is not the case for the Beazley Trophy with 136 individual entries from 26 countries all over the globe confirmed.  A British contingent of 12 fencers will take part in the event.  There are also 18 teams entered for the event on Sunday which is one more than last year.  (Correct at the time of publishing.)

Vassiliki Vougiouka (GRE) is back to defend the title she won in 2012 and is joined by Olympic bronze medallist Olga Kharlan and three time Olympic medallist, Mariel Zagunis, amongst many others from the top of the women’s sabre ranking list.

British Fencing will host the senior women’s World Cup 25-27 January 2013 at Surrey Sports Park, Guildford.  It has been confirmed press conference will be held on Friday 25th January, 2013 at 11.30am at the venue to answer any questions from the media.

For those wishing to attend tickets will be available every day at the venue at a competitive price.  (Friday £2, Saturday (preliminaries) £2, Saturday (Gala final) £5, Sunday £3.)  For those unable to attend, the entire event will be broadcast live on the FIE’s Livestream YouTube channel – FIE Videos (also available at http://www.fie.org) with live commentary provided by British Fencing’s Karim Bashir and David King.  Access to the FIE100 Hall of Fame and Centenary Exhibition will be available throughout the event.

The Hall of Fame will include images of some of the most influential people involved in fencing in the last 100 years, including British Olympic medallists Bill Hoskyns and Allan Jay.  The exhibition will include items dating back several hundred years.
