Congratulations to Daniel Hazelwood who has been selected by the EFC to referee at the 2022 U23 European Championships.
Daniel Hazelwood has been selected by the European Fencing Confederation (EFC) for the forthcoming U23 European Championships being Tallinn, Estonia from the 27 to 31 May 2022.
This is the second time Daniel has been selected for the a major European Championships, as he was also selected to referee at the 2019 U23 European Championships.
In 2020, after his third season as a two weapon FIE (International Fencing Federation) qualified referee, Daniel Hazelwood was selected for the first time to the EFC Master List. This is the list of FIE referees that the EFC uses to select referees for all its major championships.
Since fencing restarted after COVID, Daniel has refereed in 6 Junior World Cups and refereed the team final and individual semi-final at Sabadell (Junior Men’s Foil) and team bronze medal match and individual quarter finals (L8) at Timisoara (Junior Women’s Foil).
On his selection, Daniel said, “I am incredibly pleased to be selected again as an official for a European championship. It has been a pleasure to accompany our teams to Junior World Cup competitions over the past years. I hope that any experience I gain here can be used to support and develop our fencers and referees in the future. I am grateful for the continual support of BF and the Referee Pathway Programme.
