FAREWELL, RICHARD OLDCORN, OLYMPIAN

The New South Wales Fencing Association sadly reports the passing away in Sydney of Olympic fencer Richard Oldcorn at the age of 84.

Richard represented Britain in sabre at the 1964 (Tokyo), 1968 (Mexico City) and 1972 (Munich) Olympics.

He managed the British fencing team at the 1980 (Moscow) Olympics.

He was a member of the gold medal winning English sabre team at the British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Kingston, Jamaica in 1966.

After Richard moved to Sydney, he competed in NSW and Australian championships as recently as 2016. He represented Australia at World and Commonwealth Veteran Championships.

Those who knew him will remember Richard as a true gentleman of our sport.

Richard’s friends in fencing are invited to celebrate his life at a service to be held at 1pm on Friday 10 June at the South Chapel, Northern Suburbs Memorial Gardens and  Crematorium, 199 Delhi Road, North Ryde NSW 2113 followed by a reception.
