Launch of the official website of the 2013 Fencing World Championships in Budapest
Lausanne, 11 March 2013 – The English version of the official event website of the 2013 Fencing World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, has been launched. Fans and media alike are welcome to visit www.fencing2013.com to find the provisional competition schedule and further information on the event that will take place from 5 to 12 August in the Syma Event and Congress Center in Budapest.
The first medal events will be on 7 August in men’s sabre and women’s foil individuals. Team competitions will start on 10 August.
In the year of the FIE’s centennial, the 2013 World Championships in Budapest are one of the major events to celebrate the founding of the FIE on 29 November 1913 in Paris. With a little bit less than six months to go until the opening of the world championships, preparations are well on track.
“We are thrilled to be the hosts of this event that will be the celebration a 100-year-old federation deserves. We are looking forward to welcome the best athletes from around the world to join us in the fencing festivities going on for over a week in August while we are expecting the international celebrities of the sport to attend this major chapter of the centennial events,“ said Balint Vekassy, Chairman of the Budapest 2013 Organising Committee.
The ticketing for the event will start on 1 May with media accreditation beginning the same month.
During the world championships, the FIE 100 Hall of Fame will be exhibited as well as an exhibition about the history of fencing and the FIE, making valuable fencing artefacts available to the public. Also, the elections to the FIE Athletes Commission will be conducted.
