Athletes are people where their mental health influences, impacts and mediates the physical performance in the training and competition environments. Mental skills, mental health and wellbeing are frequently used to describe the psychological factors involved in sporting performance, and are often used interchangeably.
A more complete understanding of the similarities and differences across ‘types of psychological factors’. Specifically a ‘mental health’ framework will be provided to explore individuals’ global psychological characteristics and how these vary under situation specific contexts such as the impact and influence of internal, external and environmental hassles, demands and pressures.
Understanding ‘mental health and wellbeing’ across a continuum from ‘clinical and sub-clinical to healthy and performance resilience will be offered to contextualise psychological wellbeing. These ideas will, in part, be illustrated through a thrive-manage-survive lens applied through the wellbeing meter.
This online session is open to anyone who is interested in exploring and understanding mental health and wellbeing as it pertains to fencing, as a coach, athlete or spectator. It may be of particular interest to anyone who wants to incorporate wellbeing tools into their lives.
