City University London have decided to sponsor a new programme for the development of fencing in all London universities which is open to foil fencers of all nationalities. Former Olympic fencers, Ziemek Wojciechowski and Pierre Harper will lead the coaching and will deliver their sessions every Tuesday morning from 10am until 1pm starting in September. The annual fee is just £60.
City University London has committed to developing the London Universities Fencing programme and as such have decided to make fencing their focus sport, and are covering the cost of the coaching this year. Should the programme prove a success in year one there is an opportunity to use their brand new sports facility which will open next year.
There are limited places for the advanced LUF foil training so if you are interested please email [email protected]. There are also places for intermediate fencers in all three weapons to form a LUF sparring session on Monday evenings from 7pm until 9pm. Epee and sabre programmes are planned in the future.
Speaking about the programme, British Fencing’s Head of Development, Margaret Nolan said; “The generous support provided by City University London is greatly appreciated as British Fencing continue to prioritise increasing participation in the sport.”
William Thomson, Head of Sport at City University London, added; “The University is excited about the new direction taken with our Fencing Programme. We look forward to building this fantastic sport within the London Universities area, and supporting elite fencers within our programme.”
