Paris Congress Marks Landmark Day

Today, the international fencing federation celebrates its 100th birthday.  A record 142 out 149 national delegations are marking the day by attending the 2013 Congress in Paris, including Great Britain.

British Fencing’s President, Hilary Philbin, is heading up the British delegation in Paris and earlier today she said; “We are extremely proud to be one of the founding nations and will continue to support fencing in the international arena.”

Throughout the year the FIE have been touring a travelling exhibition which was first put on show at the Beazley Trophy, Women’s Sabre World Cup, in January, in Surrey.  In addition to this, the FIE have produced a stunning video trilogy called “En Garde”, showcasing the work of the federation, affiliated members nations and fencers from all over the world.  Those videos and a video tour of the travelling exhibition can be viewed here.

British Fencing’s Chairman, David Teasdale added his congratulations to the FIE by saying; “British Fencing extends warm congratulations to the FIE today.  We are working towards being a strong fencing nation both on and off the piste.”

The celebrations will culminate with a Gala dinner on Saturday, 30th November at the Grand Palais in the heart of Paris.  Details of the festivities have been a closely guarded secret but it promises to be a very special night.
