FIE CONFIRMS DATES FOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN Kazan 2014 AND NEW GRAND PRIX SERIES
Following the meeting of its Executive Committee this weekend in Lausanne, the FIE (International Fencing Federation) confirmed the dates for the 2014 World Championships in Kazan, Russia, which will take place from 15 to 23 July. The detailed championship programme will be published in due course. The official website of the event is www.kzn2014.com/.
The FIE announced the dates and places for the newly created FIE Fencing Grand Prix Series (FGP Series). The FGP Series comprises 9 top level events in 9 world cities around the globe, spread from November to June, featuring the world’s best fencers.
FIE Secretary General Frédéric Pietruszka commented on the FGP Series: “The format of the FGP series will be TV and media-friendly as well as attractive for spectators on site. We have to go new ways if we want to raise the popularity and visibility of fencing. There are many great athletes and real stars among our fencers and we take it as our duty to provide them with an excellent framework to showcase their talent.”
