Home glory for Freilich
Day seven of the Championships featured individual events in Junior Women’s Foil and Junior Men’s Epee.
Junior Men’s Epee
Eighty-nine competitors took part in this event including four British fencers. Nicholas Beaumont (V2D3), Tomas Curran Jones (V3D3), Philip Marsh (V6D0) and Paul Sanchez Lethem (V4D2) all made the first round cut. In the round of 64 Beaumont was knocked out 15-9 by Berta (HUN) but Curran Jones beat Fabregat (ESP) 15-14, Marsh won 15-10 over Kyllonen (FIN) and Sanchez Lethem knocked out Oberson (SUI) 15-14. None of them made it any further as Rubes (CZE) beat Curran Jones 15-13, the eventual winner, Freilich (ISR) knocked out Marsh 15-12 and Andersson (SWE) defeated Sanchez Lethem 15-11.
Yuval Shalom Freilich (ISR) won the gold medal beating Yulen Pereira (ESP) 15-10 in the final. Two Hungarians won the bronze medals, Zsombor Banyai and Balazs Hamar.
GB placing: Marsh 17th, Sanchez Lethem 23rd, Curran Jones 27th & Beaumont 60th.

Junior Women’s Foil
Four British fencers formed part of the 54-strong field in this event. Only two made it through the first round cut with Yvonne Chart (V1D5) and Katie Smith (V0D5) missing the cut. Chloe Dickson (V2D4) and Ayesha Fihosy (V3D3) did make it through to the round of 64. There, the eventual bronze medalist, Boldor (ROU) beat Dickson 15-6 but Fihosy went through 15-8 against Goglidze (GEO). In the round of 32, French fencer, Ranvier ended Fihosy’s day 15-5.
Svetlana Tripapina (RUS) defeated Erica Cipressa (ITA) 15-5 to take the European title. Maria Boldor (ROU) and Camilla Mancini (ITA) went home with the bronze medals.
GB placings: Fihosy 29th, Dickson 42nd, Chart 50th and Smith 54th.
