TSANG NOMINATED FOR SPORTSAID AWARD

Foilist Amelie Tsang has been shortlisted for the SportsAid Award along with other newcomers.

Cadet Women’s Foil World Champion Amelie Tsang was nominated for the SportsAid annual One-To-Watch award on the 22nd November 2023.

“I was really excited when I got the email to say I’d been nominated as I didn’t expect it,” Tsang told Yahoo Sport.

“It’s really nice to know that what you’re achieving and what you’ve been doing is being recognised by such a big charity like SportsAid.

“It is good to know all the hours I’m putting in are not going unnoticed. It is a great stepping stone to carry on and do better.”

Established in 2006 with the support of the Royal Bank of Canada, the annual award aims to spotlight the stories of the brightest young sporting talents in Britain. The finalists for this year will each receive in-person visits at their training venues, acknowledging their exceptional accomplishments, and

The prestigious ‘Hall of Fame’ of the One-to-Watch Award attests to its success, featuring past winners such as Tom Daley OBE, Hollie Arnold MBE,  and Alex Yee MBE. Past winners taken multiple medals from events like the Olympic and Paralympic Games, World and European Championships, as well as the Commonwealth Games.

Tsang’s achievements this year include gold in the women’s individual foil at the World Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships, as well as gold in the individual foil at the senior British Fencing Championships. She also won a silver medal in individual foil at the EFC Cadet event in Cabries.

The 10 athletes are selected from a pool of around 1,000 rising British stars across more than 60 different sports during 2023. Athletes are nominated by their sport’s governing body on the strength of their talent and potential, demonstrating why the One-to-Watch Award has earned a robust reputation for recognising the most promising and rising stars in sport.

Last year’s winner was powerlifter Mark Swan, who was presented the award by para-swimmer Ellie Challis. The overall winner for 2023 is set to be revealed in December.
