CORE COACH: 17TH REIGATE SCOUT GROUP

A one-day Core Coach course with the 17th Reigate Scout group took place on 8th June 2024.

The 17th Reigate Scout group was formed in 1915 by Fr Charles Westlake. The group includes approximately two hundred young people aged between 4 and 18 years old, supported by over thirty adult volunteers providing Scouting cross Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers. This group has been organising fencing courses with us since 2017.

The June course, led by our BF Coach Developer Rupert Davies-Cooke, was successful, with all ten candidates passing the course.

Reflecting on the experience, Rupert shared some nice feedback on the scouts group:

“I coached representatives from the local scout groups around Redhill and Reigate. One of the participants is an experienced fencer who qualified as a coach fifteen years ago. Two course participants also work with a Muslim Girls Scouts group, so you have a real mix of cultures in this scouting area.

“Thank you for hosting a most enjoyable session. I really appreciate your commitment to the course.”

Congratulations to the participants, who are now prepared to conduct fencing taster sessions to their group.

What is BF’s Core Coach course?

The Core Coach Offer is designed to connect the Activity Provider and Education Sector to the BF Coaching Framework. It is an entry-point course that will provide delegates with the skills and knowledge to deliver a 1 hour taster session / 6 hours pre-planned taster programme. Depending on the background of the delegates, the course has a 1 or 2 day delivery model.

Who should attend?

Organisations that use multi-sport staff such as schools, uniform groups, educational activity providers and holiday activities providers.

If you are a Scout Leader and want to organise a course for your group, please fill out this form, and one of our staff members will get in touch with you.
