Cadet Foilist seals quarterfinal finish at European Circuit Event

Jade Rowland, 16, from Premier Fencing Club, secured fifth place at the European Cadet Circuit Foil event in Poland this weekend.

A field of one hundred and six fencers lined up on Saturday 24th January in Poland and Jade started strongly, winning all five of her first round matches.  Ranked seventh for the direct elimination stages meant that she had a bye through the round of 128.  She then beat Karloina Kapral (POL) 15-3, Julia Wojtaluk (POL) 15-8 and Harriet Rundquist (SWE) 15-6 to make the quarterfinal.  There, she faced the European number seven, Kata Kondricz (HUN) and was beaten 15-9.

Kondricz went on to win, beating teammate, Nora Hajas 14-13 in the final.  The bronze medals went to Renata Tomczak (POL) and Janka Toth (POL).

Speaking about here performance Jade said; “I felt confident with the way that I fenced and I plan on fine tuning in preparation for the European Championships.  I am looking forward to competing in Maribor, Slovenia!”

This strong result follows news of her selection to compete for Great Britain at the European Cadet Championships in Maribor, Slovenia in February.
