The Robert Bruniges memorial fund is now open for applications from GBR Cadets and Juniors looking to make the step up to representing GBR at international competitions. Closing date – 31st January 2024.
Rob was a cherished member of the BF community and was a World Junior Foil Champion 1976, GB Foil Champion 1981, GBR Olympian 1976, 1980, 1984, coach, coach developer, mentor and a great friend to many.
In February 2023 Bath Sword Club (BSC) started a memorial fund in Rob’s honour.
Following fundraising activities BSC is now accepting applications for this fund (and new donations are still welcome).
The fund is seeking to assist in a small way any cadet and junior GBR fencer that is looking for financial support when stepping up from the national circuit to representing GBR on the international circuit.
Andrew Courtney, Chair of BSC said, “The costs of accepting invitations to represent GBR internationally is not cheap and with the requirement for FIE equipment, travel and accommodation it can be a big shock to many parents in helping their child achieve their dream to represent Great Britain internationally. Rob when he was younger faced a very similar situation and his parents would very often run local fundraising events to help fund Rob’s fencing trips. We have therefore set up this fund to help those young fencers who may struggle to accept their first invitations to represent Great Britain internationally to due to their financial circumstances.”
More details on the fund and the application form is available here.
The deadline for the 2023-24 applications will be Wednesday 31st January 2024.
Donations can be made on the Just Giving page and bank transfer details are also available.
