Fencing showcase aims to wow Waterloo commuters
Network Rail will host a British Fencing pop-up event at Waterloo Station on 9th June 2016 aimed at increasing fencing participation whilst providing an eye-catching spectacle for some of London’s commuters.
The aim of the event is to showcase the sport and encourage people to get involved in some way – from an active participant in the sport itself, to following and supporting our team in Rio. The day will be running from 12noon through until 8pm with compered fencing demonstrations taking place, opportunities for people to have a go with plastic fencing kit and a reaction game to allow people to test their reaction speeds.
Speaking about the event, British Fencing’s Chief Executive, Georgina Usher said; “We are extremely grateful to Network Rail for providing us with another fantastic opportunity to showcase our sport. We look forward to repeating the successes of our demonstration at the station in 2014 when we were able to engage such a large audience with fencing. As before our aim is to show all passers-by that fencing is a sport for everyone and to encourage them to get down to their local clubs and give it a try.”
“I’d like to thank everyone involved in putting this together and look forward to the event – the first public event since Wilkinson Sword became our official partners.”
If anyone from your club would be interested in being involved on the day as a volunteer, either taking part in the fencing demonstrations or in the have a go area then please email [email protected] with your availability on the day of the event – no-one can promote our sport and your club better than your members so it would be great to see some representatives from your club at the event.
