Barnes dedicated his life to develop grass roots fencing in the South East
British Fencing is sad to announce the passing of Roger Barnes. In the 1990s, he became the point of contact at Streatham Fencing Club where he coordinated competition entries. From there he became heavily involved in the region joining both the Surrey Committee and South East Region Committee. He soon became the Chair of both.
Recognised by his friends and peers as a selfless man, Roger spent all of his time promoting grass roots fencing in his region. Over the past ten he was regularly seen on public transport with heavy computer equipment on his way to run various local competition.
Roger will be missed by many people. Our condolences to his friends and family at this sad time.
