START OF SEASON 2022-23 CADET AND JUNIOR RANKING LISTS PUBLISHED

In preparation for the start of the 2022-23 competitive ranking competitions, the latest cadet and junior ranking lists have been published. These rankings are used to aid the start of the fencing competitions for the Under 17 and Under 20 age categories by seeding the poules.

For cadets only:

The cadet rankings are based on the carried-over points from the previous season.

As shared during the ranking scheme consultation process last season, the Under 14 British Youth Championship (BYC) results have been included for eligible athletes. These are transition bonuses that are designed to help seed the competitions at the start of the season for the poules, ensuring that transitioning fencers are not starting the season unranked.

Athletes that competed in the Under 16 or Under 18 BYC events would not be eligible for a transition bonus as they are at the competitive age where they could have entered the U17 competitions during that season. Fencers that have not competed in the 2021/2022 British ranking competitions (BRCs), National Championships or British Youth Championships 2022 Under 14 event are not eligible for cadet ranking points.

For junior only:

The cadet transition bonus for eligible fencers transitioning to juniors has been applied as per the ranking scheme.

The junior ranking is a rolling ranking. Fencers that already have eligible results from the previous season will be required to defend or improve on those results to keep their ranking.

Applies to all:

The above transition bonuses will be removed from the rankings on  1st December 2022 for all age groups. These updates will be shown on first publication of the rankings after this date, when the results of a ranking event are processed.

The consultation period for the 2022/2023 ranking scheme consultation will start in July 2022 (TBC) but there are minimal changes to last year’s scheme that will affect these rankings being effective or the BRCS taking place in June and July.
