In the King’s New Year Honours List 2025, it has been announced that Dimitri Coutya has been awarded an MBE for services to fencing.
At the Paris 2024 Paralympics, Dimitri Coutya won Paralympic gold in both the Cat B Foil and Epee Individual Wheelchair Fencing Events. In addition, he won sliver in the Men’s Foil Team and bronze in Men’s Epee Team events.
Coutya first became World Champion in 2017 when he won two golds at the World Championships in Rome. This was followed by his first European Championship gold in 2018. Since his first representation for Great Britain in Wheelchair Fencing, Coutya has won over 80 international medals in individual events for GBR.
During the qualification period for the Paris 2024 Paralympics, Coutya won seven European titles, World Championship bronze and silver medals, his first European Sabre medal and a silver in the Paris 2024 European Championships.
Speaking about the award, Dimitri said: “I’m so delighted to be included in the King’s New Years Honours List! It’s the perfect way to end a very good year for me and I feel very honoured indeed.”
