It’s the 17-year-old’s foillist’s first World Cup medal
David Sosnov took a silver medal in junior men’s foil at the World Cup event in Udine, Italy on Saturday 6th January 2024.
David took 12 points off eventual winner Zhaoran Zeng of China in the final, with the two heading a 230-strong field.
Sosnov is pictured above with coach Ziemek and travelling coach Keith Cook, who said: “David’s outstanding performance at the Junior Fencing World Cup in Udine truly reflects the culmination of his hard work and dedication from himself and his coach Ziemek.”
“His world-class ability to excel under pressure was evident today.”
David said: “It was an incredible day which I’ll always be so grateful for as it’s my first individual junior World Cup medal, and all my thanks go out to my coach Ziemek, my teammates who stayed late to support, and all the BF staff present.”
Sosnov, who trains at ZFW Fencing, had previously taken international medals at the Challenge Wratislavia event, as well as several national titles.
In the junior men’s epee competition held the day before at the same venue, Great Britain’s Cador Beautyman made the last eight in a field of 270.
