DEREK SWEENEY 1929-2015

It is with much sadness that we report that Derek Sweeney died on Monday 5th January.

A well-known character to those in the fencing community especially in South London where he coached for well over 40 years.  Derek was a lifetime President of Wimbledon Fencing Club and was heavily involved in coaching wheelchair fencers, including the team that took part in the 1992 Barcelona Paralympics.

Derek was presented with a long term service award by British Fencing (then the Amateur Fencing Association) in February 2007.  He will be missed by many and our condolences go to his family and friends.
