The schedule for the British Open Championships 2025 has been confirmed.
The British Open Championships 2025 will take place on the 5th-6th July 2025 at EIS Sheffield. The weekend includes events with Senior, Junior, Cadet and U14 Ranking Points available.
New for this year are the British Open Veteran and Grand Veteran Championships.
The Championships are for all Compete licensed members of British Fencing, including those not eligible to compete for GBR and international visitors. Events include:
British Open Senior Championships
The British Open Senior format is a standard open format (1 round of poules, followed by DE) and includes a ‘plate tableaux’ for fencers eliminated after the poules. Fencers eliminated after the poules are automatically entered into the plate competition, which follows a standard DE format.
Wheelchair fencing events are open events (not restricted to only classified athletes). BF is aware that not everyone who wants to fence sitting down is currently classified, or is interested in or able to be classified under the Paralympics system.
British Open U14 Championships
This is an event for all U14 Compete licensed members of BF, including those not eligible to compete for GBR and international visitors. The British Open U14 Championships are the first domestic ranking event of the 2025-26 season.
British Open Veterans (Cat 2+) Championships
New for 2025, the British Open Veterans (Cat 2+) and Grand Veterans Championships event will take place over the weekend. Events are staggered to allow eligible fencers to enter the Open Veterans and Senior events over the weekend (alternate days).
The format will be combined poules using the EVF (European Veterans Federation) handicap system, followed by separate tableaux for Veterans/Grand Veterans. In matches where a Grand Veteran fences a Veteran, they receive a +1 head start. The competition will result in Champions and medallists in both Veteran and Grand Veteran categories.
