BF delivered a national two-day training event to launch the newly established Fencing Development Team.
Over the weekend of the 11th-12th January, BF staff and coaches delivered training to eight participants who will be joining the Fencing Development Team. The aim of the team is to help grow, sustain and develop fencing activity through a collaborative team of individuals who can deliver courses and training to widen the workforce.
Participants practised a range of tools and frameworks in order to help in their journey of developing others. In addition, the weekend provided opportunity for participants to network and share ideas, as well as find out more about BF’s social impact programmes. This included a demonstration and discussion of our recently-launched SwordSeat™, a wooden seated fencing frame that can either be bought or assembled. The SwordSeat is designed to significantly reduce the cost of wheelchair fencing in order to make it accessible to a wider range of people. Neil Bromley, who participated in the course, said:
“Brilliant course. I arrived with a few nerves and have left feeling inspired and enabled to become a fencing developer.”
Steph McMenemy, another participant, said:
“I found the weekend to be inspirational and absolutely loved it.”
The next step in their journey is now to become orientated onto courses, joining the existing team of developers to widen and scale the number of opportunities for people to engage in fencing.
