Camden and Truro Fencing Clubs recognised for efforts in driving forward Men’s Sabre

British Fencing is delighted to announce that this year, the Worshipful Company of Cutlers has, in conjunction with British Fencing, awarded the Cutlers’ Medal to the GB Men’s Sabre Squad.

The award is in recognition of the hard work and performances across the weapon that:

a)      resulted in the inclusion of a sabre squad onto the World Class Programme, and;

b)      saw the GB Junior team attain fifth place at the recent Budapest Junior World Cup.

This GB Junior Team was made up of Jonathan Webb, Reuben Amsalem, William Deary and Rafael Van Hoffelen – all members of the WCP Podium Potential or Talent Programmes.

Alongside the Medal, the two clubs that have contributed most to athletes on to the World Class Programmes will each receive an award – Camden Fencing Club will receive £400 & Truro Fencing Club £200.

On receiving the awards, Ian Williams, speaking on behalf of Camden Fencing Club said; “We are very grateful to Cutlers for this award. These are exciting times for British Mens’ Sabre and I would like to thank everybody involved for all their hard work and dedication over a number of years.”  Jon Salfield of Truro Fencing Club said; “We have shown that two fiercely competitive clubs can come together under the GB flag and achieve great success.”

Alex Newton, Performance Director said; “I was pleased that the Worshipful Company of Cutlers has recognised the efforts of these two clubs in developing the next generation of sabre talent.  We look forward to working with both these clubs to further our ambitions to deliver medals on the world stage at senior and junior level.

The award was presented to Patricia Aiyenuro, representing Camden Fencing Club, on Saturday 8th November at Cutlers’ Hall.
