GBR WEAPON GROUP – TERMS OF REFERENCE

Purpose: The GBR Weapon Groups were set up to guide the development of weapon performance in the UK through a collaborative approach to coach and athlete development, training, selection, and preparation for competition.

Scope: The scope is within British Fencing ADP/GBR Programme (including specific nominated international and domestic competitions)

Responsibilities:

  1. Giving direction and support to the future development of the weapon from cadet through to senior level
  2. Providing leadership and guidance in the development of the ADP programme, shaping the deliverables across camps, competitions and other athlete development opportunities (including online education)
  3. Setting and improving standards at ADP camps and competitions
  4. Advising on relevant BF Policy development
  5. Supporting the delivery of funding body requirements (UK Sport Progression and Sport England Talent)
  6. Submission of nominations for selections at all age groups (Selection still being performed by the Selectors)
  7. Profiling athletes to pathways stages, reviewing IADPs, identifying athlete acceleration and transition support opportunities
  8. Sharing insight from the international level and the subsequent requirements/impact on domestic training and competition.
  9. Proposing updates to the GB Style (3Ps)
  10. Identifying risks and issues and escalating as appropriate

 

Membership:
The group membership is based on roles, appointments and availability within the BF weapon community and will be reviewed annually before the start of the international season.

Note: the make-up of the working group will be reviewed each season. Applicants are expected to have evidence of building athlete development programmes to support medal-winning performances at major championships and evidence that they are engaged in personal development (for example, a current coaching health check).
