Olympic & Paralympic Nominations

For Olympic and Paralympic Events (including the European Games) BF is not responsible for selection, only for nomination to the National Olympic or Paralympic Committee. For details on how this operates, please see the relevant policy.

Who makes the selection?

Selection is done by the individual Weapon Panels or Major Event Panels set up following the GBR Selection Policy. Panel members can be found here.

When is the selection done?

Unless contained in the approved policy, the cut-off dates for results counting towards selection are published in the calendars here.

This cut-off date marks the start of a standard selection process which includes any selection panels required and any appeals. Individual policies may set out changes to the standard process.

Where is selection announced – How do I know I have been selected?

Announcements for Selection for Nominated Competitions including European and World Championships will be published on the website through latest news and can also be found here:

Senior & U23 Announcements

Cadet Announcements

Selected athletes will be sent a follow-up email to the address in the BF membership platform. BF is not responsible or liable for any failure to receive or act on selection emails.  Athletes are advised to regularly check the announcement pages.

Please note that due to limited resources BF executive team, weapon managers and selectors will not reply to individual queries from athletes, parents and coaches with regards to whether specific individual athletes have or will be selected for events.

How do I accept selection?

Athletes will be emailed a selection email which will have a link for them to log into their sport80 profile and accept selection. Fees may be payable at this point.

By accepting selection an athlete is automatically bound by the GBR Policies which can be found here.

Athletes planning to accept selections must ensure that their contact email address in the BF platform is up to date, regularly monitored and that sufficient finances are in place in advance.

To accept selection, athletes must click on the link to accept selection and make payment if due by a deadline.  Failure to make payment after clicking on the link to accept could result in the athlete place being offered to a reserve and an administration fee levied. Athletes that fail to complete payment by the closing date may be subjected to a late payment fee. BF will not enter an athlete who does not follow the correct procedure by the published timescales*.

Important – Timescales may be short, and can be as little as 48-72 hours from email notification.

(*Why is this so strict? In any one normal season, BF process over a thousand entries across EFC and FIE events, the majority of these falling within a 6 month window. We are a very small administrative team in place in Head Office (to keep costs down for members) so we need a repeatable process with clear timescales to ensure that we can successfully process entries during working hours and still provide this service through the occasional staff holiday or illness.)
