Make fencing work within your school’s budget through the physical and personal development themes of We Are Forging Futures.
Understanding the financial challenges faced by schools, We Are Forging Futures, in association with British Fencing, is designed to be a low-cost and flexible way to introduce fencing to your curriculum. Moreover, there is a way to make fencing work around your school’s budget.
As well as widening your school’s PESSPA (PE, School Sport and Physical Activity) provision, We Are Forging Futures is unique in how it contributes to personal development. With an emphasis on resilience and confidence, our We Are Forging Futures programmes encourage children to build a better understanding of themselves and others.
The respect and discipline in fencing etiquette also enable children to learn important values, teaching them positive behaviour. Moreover, the sport is as much a mental as it is a physical game. Children therefore develop strategic thinking skills as well as emotional regulation, bolstering their resilience.
“The programme has fostered many important behaviours in the children: respect, teamwork, honesty, discipline and equality. Children at my school have now experienced a sport which is not so commonly seen within state education or the local area and this is fantastic for their self-confidence and future aspirations.” – Dan Hatfield (St Giles CE Primary School)
In their updated Inspection Framework, Ofsted have included a new ‘Personal Development’ section, emphasising the development of children’s confidence, resilience and respect for others. This may be achieved by the range and quality of extracurricular activities. By introducing fencing through We Are Forging Futures, you too can enhance your curriculum: not only by providing an activity rarely offered at schools, but also through the personal learning opportunities given to children.
By interweaving both physical and emotional development, We Are Forging Futures can fit into different funding allocations. It may be a PE activity, but it can also be introduced as a PSHE (Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education), enrichment or extra-curricular activity. As a result, We Are Forging Futures offers a flexible way to fit into your school funding allocation.
Through the Explore Fencing CPD course at only £25, along with the free Explore Fencing app, you can get a taste of fencing at minimal cost. Training can then be developed further through one of our partnership packages: with four levels, you can select the one that best suits your organisation’s ambitions and budget. We Are Forging Futures aims to bring fencing to you in a flexible way, with delivery and training becoming more advanced as you require.
