JAMES WILLIAMS CHARITY FENCEATHON SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER

A charity fenceathon in aid of amyloidosis to honour James Williams is being held at Leon Paul in London on Saturday 9th November 2024.

The event is for all weapons and will be run in three hour slots, finishing in the early hours of Sunday morning. The goal is to beat the current world record of 12 hours set by 188 fencers.

There is no time limit on how long participants can stay for. The event is welcome to all from beginner to elite level.

Entry is £10 and all money raised will go to charity.

This event is in honour of the memory and a celebration of the life of James Williams: Olympian, BF Board Member, BF Olympic Team Manager, GBR Sabre Coach and much respected member of the fencing community who passed away after a short illness on 13th May 2024.

The event is to raise funds in support of charities devoted to supporting the early detection and diagnosis of amyloidosis, the rare and cruel myeloma complication that took James’ life.

The James Williams Foundation

The James Williams Foundation is a support service set up by James’ daughter Laurynn Williams for those affected by amyloidosis, whether it be patients themselves or their families, as well as working to advocate for the early detection and faster diagnosis of amyloidoisis. It will also contribute towards research at the Royal Free Hospital in London.

“I never imagined a world where my dad would not get to see me graduate, but I promised him I would become the best doctor I could be, that I would fight hard for other people affected by this awful disease, and work to become a specialist in the field. I know he is with me in every lecture, every exam and with me in every patient I treat.” said Laurynn.
