Following the change to the Junior GB Ranking System selectors may need to apply additional discretion to account for the short term impact of any ranking changes on individual athletes with respect to the first Junior World Cups.
Item 11. of the Junior Selection Policy (http://britishfencing.com/uploads/files/gbr_junior_selection_policy_2017-2018_v1.0_board_approved_19th_june_2017.pdf) states
The Talent Pathway Team reserve the right to increase the number of athletes selected in accordance with needs of the individual pathway strategy.
It has therefore been agreed by the Talent Pathway Team that a total of 12 places (20 in the case of Eden Cup) rather than the usual 9 will be available to selectors for the first two Junior World Cups of the 2017/18 season.
The nominated JWCs to which this increase will be available are as follows:
FOIL
Leszno Men 28.10.2017
Bochum Women 28.10.2017
(The Eden Cup will be selected as previously published, see latest news)
EPEE
Riga Men 14.10.2017
Lauphiem Women 14.20.2017
Luxemburg Men and Women 02.12.2017
SABRE
*Sosnowiec Men and Women 21.10.2017
Dormagen Men and Women 09.12.2017
Selectors will continue to make selections in accordance with the rules set out here:
The use of the additional 3 discretionary places is entirely at the discretion of the weapon selectors and is not compulsory.
There will be a small increase in the official’s levy to £150 to cover the cost for the additional referee payable via the British Fencing Spoort80 platform.
*Please note that we are currently unable to source FIE Sabre referees for Sosnowiec. If we cannot resolve the situation the official’s levy will be increased to £180 to cover the referee fines imposed.
