Congratulations to Peter Huggins, who has recently been re-elected as a member of the World Para Fencing SEMI Commission.
The World Para Fencing Executive Committee meeting was held on 7th March, 2025, where members were newly appointed to the World Para Fencing Commissions and Panels. These Commissions and Panels play a vital role in supporting the Executive Committee growth, development, and efficient operation of Para Fencing.
Peter Huggins was appointed member of the World Para Fencing SEMI Commission.
Peter has over 40 years of experience, taking on the role of Semi Commission Delegate or Head of Weapon Control at over 30 major events – World Championships, Zonal Championships and Zonal Games, and over 100 World Cup tournaments. At the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Peter was the Head of Weapon Control for Fencing, Modern Pentathlon Fencing and Wheelchair Fencing. This was followed by appointments as Head SEMI Commission delegate at the 2016 Rio, 2020 Tokyo Paralympics and 2024 Paris Paralympics.
The SEMI Commission’s roles at a tournament are to check the technical installations and the approval of the various items of equipment being used, to supervise the checking of fencers’ equipment and to oversee the functioning of both the Weapon Control checks and the Call Room checks, to ensure that the rules are followed and to assist the referees with material problems during matches.
In addition, the SEMI Commission delegate acts as a member of the Directoire Technique at the Senior World Championships and the European Zonal Championships.
Outside of tournaments, the Commission approves wheelchair frames and designs for wheelchair spoke protectors, and a member sits on the World Para Fencing Rules Commission.
After his appointment, Peter said, “I am delighted with my re-election and I am looking forward to continuing my work with the world’s wheelchair fencers.”
Pat Aiyenuro, President of BF, says “Congratulations to Peter on his election to the SEMI commission. Well deserved with all his knowledge and experience. I wish him a very successful – and no doubt busy term!”
Congratulations to Peter!
