RANKING POINTS AWARDED FOR SENIOR EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2022

BF Ranking points are awarded to qualifying performances at the Senior European Championships held in Antalya, Turkey to GB athletes.

Responding to feedback from the fencing community, the decision was made by BF and the BF Ranking Manager to award points to the athletes whose performances in Antalya, in accordance with the Senior Ranking Scheme.

The rationale for the changes was as follows:

• The omission of the Senior European Championships from the Ranking Scheme was not consistent with the schemes of the equivalent events at the Cadet, Junior and Under 23 schemes.
• Points are awarded for the Senior World Championships, not the European Championships, which was a further inconsistency.
• Athletes that had strong performances, should have those performances recognised with ranking points.
• By recognising the Zonal Championships, BF members that attended their respective Zonal Championships will also be awarded points with the ranking list.
• The decision to award points for the event will not materially impact  selections for 2023 Major Championships (see the Selection Policy for more information).

These changes will be captured in the BF Ranking Scheme for the 2022-23 season so this will be consistent for the following season. The rankings for the 1st of September 2022 will include the Senior European Championships results.

BF Members that competed at other FIE Zonal events in the 2021-22 season should contact [email protected] before 5 pm, 26th August 2022 to have their results included in the ranking scheme.
