Sarah Jones has joined BF as Head of Talent, bringing a wealth of knowledge in high-performance sport as a double Olympian and Tokyo 2020 Bronze Medalist.
With an outstanding international career in hockey, Sarah has earned 188 caps representing both Great Britain and Wales. She has competed at three Commonwealth Games and six EuroHockey Championships, showcasing not only her longevity in elite sport but also her deep understanding of what it takes to perform at the highest level. Remarkably, she made her debut for Team GB at the age of 31, underlining her belief in the importance of long-term growth.
In her new role at British Fencing, Sarah will lead on developing talent pathways across all weapons, including wheelchair fencing. Her vision is to create a performance environment where athletes at all stages can thrive, supported by inclusive and sustainable structures.
Sarah has also recently joined the board of Weightlifting Wales as a non-executive director, following her impactful work as an external advisor to the organisation. Alongside her professional achievements, Sarah is a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion in sport. She currently serves on the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (ED&I) Board for Hockey Wales, is a member of the Team Wales Athletes’ Commission, and is an ambassador for EuroGames 2027 – Europe’s largest LGBTQ+ multi-sport event, set to take place in Cardiff.
Her breadth of experience across performance sport, governance, and ED&I initiatives makes her a powerful voice for change and development in the sporting landscape.
Sarah commented, “Throughout my career, I’ve seen first-hand the power of sport to transform lives, and I’m passionate about creating environments where every athlete has the opportunity to thrive. Fencing is an incredibly dynamic and demanding sport, and I’m excited to work with the community to build inclusive, innovative pathways that support both Olympic and Paralympic success. I look forward to helping shape the future of talent development in Great Britain and am grateful to all of the British Fencing community for their support so far!”.
