As Government announces a fund aimed specifically at major spectator sports, BF continues to campaign for community sport funding.
On 19th November the Government announced that major spectator sports in England will receive a combined £300 million cash injection to protect their immediate futures over the winter period.
Support from this fund, largely composed of loans, will be provided to rugby union, horse racing, women’s football and the lower tiers of the National League. Rugby League, motorsport, tennis, netball, basketball, ice hockey, badminton and greyhound racing are also in line to benefit.
Sports were asked to submit applications on the basis of lost revenue from spectators. Fencing in the UK is not a sport which attracts spectator revenue and therefore BF was unable to put forward an application for funding.
Whilst we welcome news of any funding for the overall sport sector it is important that BF continue to work with our stakeholders to advocate for Government funding to support community sports like fencing which are also struggling as a result of COVID-19 restrictions.
We will continue to campaign to #SaveOurSports and to encourage all of you that support grassroots sport to sign the petition here.
