TOKYO 2020 MEDALS FOR GBR WHEELCHAIR FENCING

Piers Gilliver strikes Gold in the Individual Cat A Epee, and Dimitri Coutya claims bronze in the Individual Cat B Epee, in the Tokyo Paralympic Games for Wheelchair Fencing. Oliver Lam-Watson joins them for an Epee team bronze.

Latest updates: August 27th, 2021: Piers and Dimitri welcomed teammate Oliver Lam-Watson onto the podium as the trio took bronze in the Men’s Epee team event, the first epee team medal since 1980.

Piers and Dimitri will take their place on the podium in the Tokyo Paralympic Games for Wheelchair Fencing.

Piers is current World Champion & World No1 & World No2 in the Men’s Individual category A Epée & Sabre respectively. Tokyo 2020 is his second Paralympic Games having won a silver medal in the same event at Rio.  Piers beat Novosibirsk of the Russian Federation today and takes home the gold medal in the Individual category A Epée.

Dimitri is current World Champion & World No1 in the Men’s Individual category B Foil and Epée.  He brings with him a strong performance record including making his Paralympic debut at Rio 2016, where he progressed to the quarter-final stages in both the category B Foil and Epée events. Today Dimitri beat Pranevich of Belarus and secured the bronze medal in the Individual category B Epée.
