The FIE congress today voted to allow participation of Russian/Belarusian athletes, teams and officials under conditions of neutrality and eligibility from 2nd half of April 2023. The Board of BF will be reviewing this decision and consulting with stakeholders.
With a 2:1 majority, the congress passed proposals to allow Russian/Belarusian athletes, teams and officials to participate in FIE competitions from the second half of April 2023 ‘subject to possible future IOC recommendations/decisions, and in compliance with conditions of neutrality and individual eligibility‘.
There was no definition of neutrality given within the proposals by the FIE, and the IOC has yet to make its recommendations in this regard.
BF will be reviewing this decision with our stakeholders and the BF Board will meet to discuss.
It is noted that the 2023 Cadet and Junior World Championships, which take place in the first half of April, will be unaffected by these decisions.
