Great medal haul for Great Britain
Great Britain’s sixty-strong team for the 2015 World Veterans Championships have returned home having competed over six days in Limoges, France.
As we’ve come to expect the team landed a good medal haul that included two gold medals (one individual and one team), three silver medals and one bronze medal.
Paul Wedge was our sole individual champion in the Men’s Foil B category and he snatched gold from teammate and Lansdowne Club mate, Tony Bartlett, in a very exciting and close final. Strong performances from Brian Causton, Malcolm Fare, Graham Paul, Richard Sage, John Troiano and Paul Wedge took the British men’s foil team to the World Championship Men’s Foil Team title.
An incredibly tight Men’s Epee Category C final saw William Osbaldeston edged into the silver medal position by Winfried Suchanek (GER). Vivien Frith also bagged a silver medal in the Women’s Sabre Category B event, losing to Jane Eyre (USA) in the final. Peter Baron also returned with a medal. He secured a bronze medal in the Men’s Sabre Category C event losing his semi-final to Lawrence Pinkus (USA).
Team Manager, Gillian Aghajan, was delighted with both the event and the team’s performance, saying; “It was a really well organised event and a very amicable one. There were some superb medal winning performances and a good number of top eight finishes too.”
