Wheelchair fencing will be included at the Welsh and Scottish Open Events 2024, for the second year running.
As part of Welsh Fencing’s and Scottish Fencing’s commitment to provide opportunities for wheelchair fencing competitions, they will be including an Open wheelchair competition, meaning that no classification is required.
The Home Nations are aware that not everyone who wants to fence sitting down is currently classified or is interested or able to be classified under the Paralympics system. However, they don’t want that to stop people from being able to take part in the sport.
If you have always been fascinated by wheelchair fencing, but aren’t a wheelchair user day to day, these events are also for you.
Rick Rodgers, British Fencing Inclusion Officer (Disability) said:
“It’s great to see the Home Nations continuing to support the wheelchair fencing community by offering these competitive opportunities, following the success of our World Class Programme at the Paris Paralympics this year it’ll be a good opportunity for participants to continue to develop their skills for possibilities in LA28 or just for fun!”
