British Fencing, the National Governing Body for Fencing, has confirmation of funding from UK Sport for a Fencing World Class Programme (WCP) for the Rio Olympiad.  A condition of funding is that British Fencing employs a coach with significant international experience to lead the technical programme.  British Fencing is now seeking a Head Technical Coach to join the WCP Fencing team. 

The purpose of the post is to drive technical leadership and coaching performance standards. He or she will also lead the development and implementation of training and competition plans to achieve podium performances at the highest level of international competition.

Reporting to the Performance Director, the Head Technical Coach will lead the national senior team for the upcoming Olympic cycle with the objective of success at European and World level and at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.  Together they will improve strategies to achieve performance outcomes and will also be accountable for implementing integrated individual athlete performance plans.  In addition they will be responsible for the coaches working within the World Class Programme and for instilling a culture of best practice, continuous improvement and a “no compromise” approach.

For this Rio period, the successful candidate should have proven experience of coaching at the highest level and achieving world-class results at World and Olympic level in foil.  Experience of coaching across epee and sabre would be an advantage.  The successful candidate will be highly skilled in finding effective solutions for high-performance related issues and will need strong relationship building skills to persuade and influence.  The role requires experience of planning and implementing a complex programme of work, within a multi-disciplinary team and to agreed timelines.

A sound knowledge of the British high performance sports system would be useful.
